FANTASY RACING LEAGUE

The FRL is a just for fun, real-life Fantasy Formula 1 management game. Choose 6 drivers, 2 constructors and 3 bonus races from a budget of 100 FRL credits.

Points are scored for grid and finishing positions, number of laps completed, positions gained and a bonus to the driver with the fastest lap. The league table is updated as soon as possible after each Grand Prix and the history option allows Team Managers to analyse how their own team of drivers and constructors are performing race by race.

LATEST NEWS

12 May 2013 - Spanish Grand Prix

Mercede's may have locked out the front row of the grid but the speed at which they went backwards through the pack was alarming. Ferrari showed real race pace and easily secured 2 steps of the podium with only Kimi able to put any sort of challenge by making the tyres last longer than any of the other front runners.

The FRL's wait for the first unaided 1000+ points of the season is finally over with 39 Team Managers achieving this feat, however, not one of them played their Double Points bonus leaving Roosevelt Racing II to take the win in Spain.

21 April 2013 - Bahrain Grand Prix

Vettel dominated the Bahrain Grand Prix to take his second win of the season and retain his early lead in the Driver's Championship.

Force India & Paul Di'Resta narrowly missed out on a well deserved podium by a fast finishing Romain Grosjean.

Despite an impressive Pole Position Nico Rosberg spent the whole race going backwards. He made his opponents fight for each and every position but ultimately couldn't do anything to halt his slide down the field.

Jenson Button got wound up by his team mate and insisted the team calm him down but was it really Perez's driving style that upset him or the simple fact he was the quicker driver?

The FRL is still waiting for its first unaided 1000 points of the season, but bobos bad decisions can't grumble too much after doubling 972 points to take the race win in Bahrain and the overall lead.

14 April 2013 - Chinese Grand Prix

All the pre-race talk was about tyres and whether those trying an alternate strategy would pull away once the earlier stoppers on softs got caught up in traffic. But come the race Alonso played it perfectly and took a comfortable win without any worries from those starting on the harder compound. Kimi may have challenged him if he hadn't broken his front wing, but we'll never know.

The FRL had another low scoring weekend and once again no-one scored over 1000 points (without playing a bonus). Initial D currently has the overall lead but only by playing all 3 bonuses in the first 3 races. With such a low scoring start to the season I can't see Initial D hanging onto stop for very long.

24 March 2013 - Malaysian Grand Prix

In true F1 style another race is over and all we are talking about is the politics of the sport.

As far as The FRL is concerned F1 is meant to be a genuine sport where the best man is supposed to win and is fully behind Vettel and it's a shame he's now been made to tow the party line and started to apologise in public.

In fact, The FRL wishes Nico would have done the same and overtook Lewis. You now have to wonder whether Lewis negotiated a number 1 clause into his contract because the result for Mercedes would have been the same if they'd have let Nico through, but then that would have meant telling Lewis to pull over.

On another Team Note, just what amateurs are now running Ferrari? Anyone could have predicted what would have happened to Alonso's front wing when they didn't bring him in at the end of the first lap, it was not a question of if, but a question of when.

For the second race running no FRL team scored a thousand points or over (without the aid of a bonus). This could make the early users of the Double Points bonus vulnerable to those that choose to play it later in the season at some of the more high scoring circuits.

17 March 2013 - Australian Grand Prix

Kimi Raikkonen and Lotus showed the rest of the field that while it certainly helps to be quick, it's quicker still if you are also kind to your tyres. While most drivers had to stop 3 times, Kimi made the super softs last far longer and then controlled the rest of the race knowning he would be stopping 1 less time than those around him.

While Red Bull are certainly quick over 1 lap, they had a slower race pace as they wore out their tyres quickly and seemed to struggle (a little) in traffic. McLaren meanwhile seem to have vindicated Lewis's decision to move to Mercedes after they finished mid-field barely scoring any points.

The FRL got off to a quick start with 79 Team Managers opting to use their Double Points bonus in the first race, a seemingly risky tatic. Mind you it's not when you use your bonuses that counts, but how well you do with them, with Tmblewd Racing making the most of it's bonus to take the initial championship lead.

16 March 2013 - A Quick Reminder

With the Australian Grand Prix just a few hours away The FRL would like to remind all Team Managers that the scores are only assigned when the following 2 conditions have been met:
  • Firstly, the results have been declared official by the FIA (this sometimes takes many hours).
  • Secondly and most importantly, The FRL's Admin has watched the race.
Thanks for your patience.

10 March 2013 - 1 Week To Go

With just one week to go, until the opening Formula 1 race in Australia, The FRL would like to firstly wish everyone good luck and secondly remind everyone that this year there is NO practice and therefore unlimited changes are only available until midnight this Friday.

1 March 2013 - Marussia Terminate Luiz Razia's Contract

After dropping Luiz Razia due to sponsorship problems Marussia have signed Frenchman Jules Bianchi to replace him for the forthcoming season.

Therefore, The FRL has replaced Luiz Razia with Jules Bianchi for all affected Team Managers.

17 February 2013 - Registration Now Open

Welcome to the 2013 and 9th season of The FRL.

For, probably, the first time ever The FRL starts a new season with no changes or updates. However, a re-design of the database behind The FRL has now been started, a change that will affect the whole website and so this update won't come into place until the 2014 season.

During the past week people's opinions on whether a traditional practice session should be run this season and typically the result was a virtual 50/50 split. However, the decision has now been made to abandon the Practice Session and this season The FRL championship will start from the very first race of the F1 season.

The decision to re-design The FRL's database tipped the balance with regards to the practice session, as the coding needed to enable the practice session can simply be dropped while the website is re-written around the new database design.

With no practice session, unlimited changes will now only be available until the weekend of the Australian Grand Prix. After which only 5 changes will be allowed for the whole of the season.

With just 1 month to go (until the first race in Melbourne, Australia) The FRL is now open, pick your teams today.
