Quote Of The Day
| It's not quite a curve, it's a straight actually. |
The FRL is a just for fun, real-life Fantasy Formula 1 management game. Choose 6 drivers, 2 constructors and 3 bonus races from a budget of 100 FRL credits.
Points are scored for grid and finishing positions, number of laps completed, positions gained and a bonus to the driver with the fastest lap. The league table is updated after each Grand Prix and the history option allows you to analyse how your own team of drivers and constructors are performing race by race.

Latest FRL News
29 August 2010 - Belgium Grand Prix
After 4 weeks F1 returned with a damp race at Spa. The constantly changing weather conditions made for an eventful race with 3 of the main title challengers either crashing out or scoring zero points and although it could yet all still turn around, it's looking like the 2010 championship will probably be a straight fight between Hamilton & Webber, with most predicting that from Singapore onwards the Red Bull will be the car too have, due to the circuit characteristics of the last 5 races.
Despite the lack of laps, 43 Team Managers still managed to score over 1000 points with SeanOnSlicks taking the most points (without a bonus) with 1105. However, Bear F1 took the Belgium win with a double points assisted 2138.
1 August 2010 - Hungarian Grand Prix
Red Bull returned back to form and only a safety car stopped them delivering an easy 1-2. Coupled with a poor showing from McLaren and its 2 drivers, means F1 goes into its summer break with 5 drivers still competing for the 2010 driver's championship, separated by just 20 points.
To be honest, Vettel should have walked this race but having fallen asleep behind the safety car fell foul to the 10 cars length rule. However, for the conspiracy theorists among us, Vettel was given Team Orders to back up the pack (thereby allowing Webber to pull father enough ahead so he could pass Alonso, into second place, during his pit stop) but fell foul of this order.
Talking of team orders, former Team mate Michael Schumacher obviously decided Rubens Barrichello hadn't suffered enough during the 6 years they shared at Ferrari and tried to kill him by pushing him into the concrete pit wall. Pushing someone wide into the grass or gravel is one thing, but Schumacher's move was just stupidly dangerous.
With 2156 points Truffle Snufflers took the double point’s assisted FRL win. However, despite 87 teams scoring over 1000 points before bonuses, Hungary will have been a big disappointment to quite a few Team Managers due to the retirement of Hamilton, Kubica, Rosberg & Sutil. VAG Racing, with 1140, scored the most points without a bonus.
Now that Formula 1 has started its summer break with it's driver's championship nicely balanced with 7 races to go, The FRL thought it would produce its crystal ball and make its first prediction of 2010. The current top 3 is Formula Juan, HobdayMotors & The Brawn Supremacy and despite the fact many Team Managers still have some or all of their bonuses to play, The FRL is currently predicting the 2010 championship will go to either Formula Juan or HobdayMotors, however, one really poor race weekend for either or both of these teams could yet turn this prediction around.
25 July 2010 - German Grand Prix
For the first time this year Red Bull were beaten fair and square, however, no-one is going to remember this race for Ferrari's return to form, but instead for Ferrari's blantant use of team orders.
obviously, Ferrari are refusing too admit to their use of Team Orders, but quotes like "this is ridiculous", "OK, so, Fernando is faster than you. Can you confirm you understood that message?", "I don’t know what happened, but at the exit of turn six I saw Felipe a little bit slow and tried to overtake" & "We didn't give any instruction at all. I don't think anything wrong has been done, or regulation breached." just make them sound like they are treating us fans & the FIA like idiots.
The FRL maybe fantasy but at least our results are for real. Wingalls Wheels took the double points assisted win, scoring 2148, while mylittlepony, for the third time this year, scored the most points without a bonus.
18 July 2010 - HRT Play Musical Chairs
"The mysterious driver situation at Hispania Racing has taken a new twist with the announcement that Sakon Yamamoto will now replace Karun Chandhok at the team for next week’s German Grand Prix."
How this will work for all affected FRL Team Managers is as follows:
Firstly, Yamamoto will be replaced with Bruno Senna for all TM's with Yamamoto as a driver.
Secondly, Any TM's with Karun Chandhok as a driver will have him replaced with Sakon Yamamoto.
All these changes will take place, automatically, during the forthcoming race weekend. Team Managers do not need to make any changes themselves.
11 July 2010 - British Grand Prix
This time last year Silverstone was preparing for a life without F1, what a difference a year makes, a new track layout, a new pit complex (almost) and 85,000 people in attendance for Friday's practice, probably close to 300,000 for the weekend. Note to Bernie, next time some billionaire offers you a bundle of money to build a track in the middle of some country that no-one has heard of, take a look at the attendance for the British Grand Prix, racing should be where the fans are.
On the track we saw a similar qualifying & result to last year, with Vettel on pole & Webber taking the chequered flag. Despite this, it's probably safe to say that McLaren would have been much happier with the result than Red Bull, they continue to lead both championships, where as Red Bull keeps on slipping up (despite Webber's win). Williams had another good result & Mercedes finally got back onto the podium, but once again it was Rosberg and not Schumacher taking the trophy.
Silverstone is a high speed circuit liked by the drivers, but it isn't known for it's ability to produce exciting races, this year (despite the change to the layout) was proving to be much the same, but the timely intervention of the safety car bunched the pack up and we finally did see some overtaking, especially from Vettel.
Finally, Can somebody please explain why Ferrari didn't order Alonso to let Kubica past after passing him off the track, regardless of whether Kubica pushed Alonso onto the grass and who was in the right and who was in the wrong, if you complete a pass by going off circuit you will be penalised and what could well been a top 5 finish ended up being 14th. It's not rocket science, now, is it? Come on Ferrari, where has the once all conquering team gone.
Despite the lack of laps (only 52) over 100 Team Managers used their double points bonus for what was a low scoring weekend, with Mecano BMW taking the double points assisted win, scoring 1894 points in the process, however, the real FRL winner must be Mylittlepony which was the only team to score over 1000 points (without a bonus), with 1083 points 79 clear of any other Team Manager, the British Grand Prix belongs to you.
10 July 2010 - Sakon Yamamoto replaces Bruno Senna
"HRT’s team boss Colin Kolles announced in the paddock on Friday evening that its test driver Sakon Yamamoto would be replacing Senna for the British GP. However, it was later confirmed that Senna remained an integral part of the team and that the 26-year-old would return to action at Hockenheim in a fortnight’s time."
The FRL has now automatically switched Bruno Senna with Sakon Yamamoto and all Team Managers who had Bruno Senna in their Team will be awarded the points scored by Yamamoto at the British Grand Prix instead. Assuming Bruno does regain his place for the German Grand Prix The FRL will automatically swap the drivers back, for all affected Team Managers, during the German GP race weekend.
27 June 2010 - European Grand Prix
The Valencia circuit is well known for producing boring Grand Prixs, due to the nature of it’s design and to be honest, on the whole, it pretty much lived up to it's billing apart from Webber's spectacular crash while trying to overtake the much slower Lotus. The subsequent safety car period shook the running order up a bit, with the Ferrari's losing out the most, while a number of drivers managed to get away with cheating. Lewis clearly overtook the safety car but thanks to the steward's taking an enormous amount of time to judge what was clearly obvious from the helicopter shot, his penalty meant nothing as he retained his 2nd place position after his drive through. While 9 other drivers were only penalised 5 seconds for speeding during the Safety Car period, meaning hardly any changes to the finishing positions.
If the FIA aren't careful this could set a worrying president, without overtaking the Safety Car Lewis would have, most likely, finished 7th or 8th. But how can a penalty be taken seriously unless it hurts a driver’s race, clearly cheating and finishing second is better than obeying the rules and finishing 8th. In future how many other drivers’ will consider cheating to gain an advantage?
Thanks to an alternate Strategy, made possible by the safety car, Sauber & Kobayashi had their best race of the season. After easily holding off Jenson Button for most of the race, Kobayashi took a late pit stop and used the new tyres to easily pass Alonso & Buemi and gain a well deserved 7th place finish.
Williams & Barrichello also had there best race of the season, 4th placed must have felt like a win to him and the team.
Mercedes, meanwhile, seem to be going backwards with yet another poor weekend, Rosberg managed to grab 10th and score a single point, but surely this just isn't good enough for the 2009 championship winning team. Despite what he's telling the media, surely, Schumacher must be beginning to regret his decision to come out of retirement.
The FRL had a low scoring weekend, with only 3 teams scoring over 1000 points (before any bonuses were added). DeanF1 took the European win with a double points assisted 1996, with The Dogs taking the most points without a bonus of 1008.
Formula Juan took the overall lead, although with 10 races still to go and a lot of team managers still to play their bonuses the 2010 championship is still wide open.
13 June 2010 - Canadian Grand Prix
For the second race in succession Lewis Hamilton led Jenson Button home for a McLaren 1-2, with Alonso taking the final podium position. Reliablity aside, this weekend proved to be Red Bull's worst of the season, leaving them trailing McLaren in both the driver's & constructor's championships.
Schumacher had a particular bad race, seemingly hitting or pushing all other drivers off the track, starting with Robert Kubica at the first corner.
In contrast, to Schumacher & Mercedes, Toro Rosso had, probably, their best race weekend this season with Buemi scoring 4 points for an 8th place finish (despite qualifying in 15th).
Canada proved to be the most entertaining (dry) Grand Prix of the season thanks to the wide margin of difference between the prime & alternate tyres coupled with their lack of durability. Maybe the FIA & F1 should instruct Bridgestone to follow the same formula for the remaining races of the season.
The FRL saw yet another new leader, with Fruitbat taking the overall top spot after using it's final bonus. With 1110 points F1 STD 2009 scored the most points without a bonus in Canada, while pilch on pole took the Canadian win with a Double Points assisted 2212.
30 May 2010 - Turkish Grand Prix
Lewis Hamilton won his first race of the 2010 season, although he was helped by Vettel & Webber crashing into each other. Jenson Button almost put one over his team mate, for the third time this season, but couldn't quite hold onto the lead after the McLaren team mates showed the Red Bull drivers how to race each other safely.
Behind the Red Bull & McLarens the race was pretty much status quo with the next 4 drivers finishing in the same order as they started, with Ferrari, in particular, having a pretty poor race in their 800th in formula 1.
gringo73 took The FRL win with a double points assisted 1970, while mylittlepony claimed the most points, without a bonus, of 1053. "And There Off!" took over the number one position overall, with last week’s leader eds engines dropping to 5th.
16 May 2010 - Monaco Grand Prix
For the first time in his career Mark Webber took pole and the race win in two consecutive races, which now leaves Red Bull dominating both the drivers & constructors championships. Can anyone stop them from taking both Championships this season?
The 3 safety car periods stopped the cars from becoming too drawn out, but couldn't do anything about the complete lack of overtaking opportunities at Monaco, with the final places all but decided after the first (and only) round of pit stops.
Monaca became the highest scoring round of The FRL this season with 420 teams scoring a 1000 points or more. Wacky Racers took full advantage of the Double Points bonus too double 1192 points and take The FRL win with a total of 2384 points.
Monaco also saw a complete change at the top of the Overall League Table, which is now headed by eds engines. However, it is interesting to note that the top 3 teams have now already used all their 3 bonuses.
9 May 2010 - Spanish Grand Prix
Spain saw the first completely dry Grand Prix weekend since Bahrain and thankfully this race was an improvement over that one. It might not have been anywhere as exciting as some of the recent wet races, but with Schumacher holding off the faster Jenson Button, Lewis going off on the final lap (with a blown tyre) and various pit stop problems we at least had something to watch after the opening lap.
The Red Bull car is clearly the class of the field and if the team can only sort out the reliability issues the only question remaining over the driver's championship will be whether it's going to Webber or Vettel.
Despite Schumacher's forth place finish, Mercedes seem to have taken a step backwards. Other than that most teams seem to have held station despite all the new parts they brought to Spain.
Spain was a high scoring weekend for FRL team managers with 263 teams scoring 1000 points or over, in comparison to China where only 32 Team Managers managed to break into 4 figures.
The Arkansas Chuggabugs and Gueropa GP took The FRL win with both teams scoring a Double Points assisted 2134 points, however, the highest score (without a bonus) was 1122 points scored by Jelly1sh Racing.
Yeahbaby! retained the top spot overall and increased its margin to second place in the process. However, there is still a long way to go and things can change quickly in The FRL.
18 April 2010 - Chinese Grand Prix
Once again Jenson beat Hamilton after he made the better decisions regarding the changeable weather conditions and now leads the driver’s championship. Many people (including The FRL) assumed Lewis would wipe the floor with Jenson, but so far Button has proved his doubters wrong. Red Bull clearly has the fastest car, but until they can turn that speed into race wins it will all be for nothing.
Rosberg continues to make Schumacher’s return look like a mistake now having achieved something no other teammate has done before, beating Michael in 4 consecutive races. The last of the big 4 team's Ferrari, seem to be going backwards, they started 2010 with a win and have then struggled in all the races since, although Alonso managed to salvage 4th place after his jump start and 5 pit stops. Massa, meanwhile, needs to start getting some podium finishes before Kubica gets his drive in 2011.
The FRL saw the end of its practice session, which brought about a reset of all team's scores and the first use of bonuses by some Team Managers. 32 teams scored over 1000 points with Formula Juan scoring the most with 1050, however, Yeahbaby! took the decision to use its double points bonus and took the Chinese win and overall FRL lead with 2084 points.
Remember, now the practice races are over you are allowed only 5 more changes for the rest of the season, so don't make any knee jerk decisions and use them wisely.
4 April 2010 - Malaysian Grand Prix
The expected rain never fell in Malaysia, but a wet qualifying and misjudgements by Ferrari & McLaren made for a mixed up grid. Hamilton pulled off a number of early overtaking manoeuvres while Massa, Alonso & Button remained stuck behind the Toro Rossos, but despite this Massa & Button finished immediately behind Hamilton on the track, so other than bringing some entertainment to us fans, what did he gain from his more aggressive driving? Anyone who thought the Bahrain bore was a distant past, should take note of how little we saw of Vettel, Webber, Rosberg & Kubica on TV. Nothing at all interesting happened between these drivers after the initial lap and the same will probably be true for all dry races this season.
Still, we currently have a very tight championship, with the top 5 drivers separated by only 4 points. Let's hope Red Bull don't overcome their reliability issues too soon otherwise it may, very quickly, become a 2 horse race between teammates.
Meanwhile, in The FRL, the Malaysian Grand Prix brought the "Practice Session" to a conclusion. Although the unlimited changes remain in place until the weekend of the Chinese Grand Prix, the top 3 positions and therefore the bonus points have been decided.
There was quite a lot of movement at the top of the league table with last weeks Leaders, Bullets & Pilch On Pole, slipping back allowing Cubical10 to take the overall lead and the 150 bonus points. 100 points are awarded to last years champion Hobdaymotors and the final 50 points going to Lancia Maserati, Thank God The Chain Is Back & The Slip Streams (all 3 teams finished on 2860, as they have all picked exactly the same team). Well done to all, but lets not forget downforce who took the Malaysia win with 1022 points, the only team to score over 1000 points this weekend.
With the end of the "Practice Session" all scores will be reset to zero (except for any bonus points, as detailed above) and all Team Managers will only be allowed a further 5 changes for the remainder of the season, although, as previously stated, this won't happen until the weekend of the Chinese Grand Prix, so make the most of the unlimited changes while you still can.
28 March 2010 - Australian Grand Prix
After the Bahrain bore the Australia Grand Prix had a lot of expectation resting upon it's shoulders, could it produce a race to wipe out the negative headlines of a fornight ago? With a little help from the safety car, some fast cars out of position and a short rain shower Australia certainly gave us F1 fans more of what we expect from the sport.
Despite not being the fastest car on the track, Button took a very impressive race win and in the process certainly but Lewis's nose out of joint. A few more results like this one and we could soon be seeing Lewis throwing his teddy out of his pram. Kubica definitely out performed his car taking second, with Massa showing Ferrari no longer have any team orders by holding off his much quicker team mate for third after Alonso quickly came from the back of the pack following his spin on the opening lap. Schumacher meanwhile seemed far from his former self, just like Alonso he ended up at the back of the pack, but unlike Alonso, couldn't find his way past the slower cars.
The FRL saw a major swing in the pecking order with a completely new top 4, only Fast and Furious managed to stay in the top 5, but dropped from first to fifth in the process. Red Devils449, cubical10 & rohitssss made up the top 3 positions respectively, with bullets taking fifth place in Australia and the lead overall.
Kuala Lumpur, in a weeks time, ends the FRL's "Practice Session", after which all scores will be zeroed, except for the top 3 who will start the race for the 2010 championship with a bonus of 150, 100 & 50 points respectively.
14 March 2010 - Bahrain Grand Prix
The new formula 1 season kicked off in Bahrain, unfortunately, in The FRL's opinion, it started with more of a whimper than a bang. The decision to ban refuelling ensured this race was little more than a procession. You can't force one F1 car to overtake another just by wishing it, the lack of overtaking is an aerodynamic problem, not a refuelling one and by banning refuelling we aren't going to suddenly see one overtaking manoeuvre after another.
Still, procession or not, we did learn a lot about where the relevant teams and drivers stand. Ferrari are cleary at the head of the field, but the Red Bull, in Vettel's hands, is a match. McLaren & Mercedes are just off the leaders pace. Force India has clearly jumped fully into the midfield and could well give Renault & Williams a run for their money. Of the new teams Virgin appear to be the quickest, but as the old saying goes, to finish first, first you've got to finish and only Lotus managed to do that.
So, well done and the first podium of 2010 goes too Alonso, Massa & Lewis, although Vettel should have been standing on the top step himself.
The first FRL podium goes to Fast & Furious, The Wacky Racers & Osborne F1, with the top 2 tied on 1042 points. Only 9 teams managed to break the 1000 points barrier, so well done to you all and for those of you with an eye on the 2010 title, watch out for the 2009 champion HobdayMotors who has started the season with a very respectable 5th.
For the rest of you, remember, during the first 3 races The FRL is in "Practice" mode and you are allowed unlimited changes, so make the most of them now.
12 March 2010 - Start Of 2010 Season
The first day of practice has now taken place in Bahrain, however, not too much was revealed as we don't know who was show boating on low fuel loads (Sutil in first Practice?) and who was preparing for the race with full tanks (Ferrari, maybe?), although the top 4 teams appear to be as expected Ferrari, McLaren, Mercedes and Red Bull. HRT did make it to Bahrain but after spending all day putting their cars together they managed to get Brunno Senna out for only a few laps and he was then 11.5 seconds off the pace set by Nico Rosberg. At that speed they will be lapped by around lap 8.
Now, with qualifing just a few hours away, The FRL would like to take this opportunity to wish all Team Managers good luck for the forth coming season. Tomorrow will see just how accurate your initial picks have been. The FRL also wishes to thank everybody who has registered so far, 2010 has seen another growth in players with almost double the amount of players compared to this time last year, so thank you to all.
7 March 2010 - Hispania Racing Team
When registration opened 3 weeks ago, Campos-Meta & USF1 looked very unlikely to make it to Bahrain, so The FRL made the decision not to allow Team Managers to pick either constructor or their drivers. Since then USF1 has officially withdrawn from the 2010 season and Campos-Meta looked to be heading the same way until they weren't brought out by Jose Ramon Carabante. Now with a new name, Hispania Racing Team look like they will be on the starting grid at Bahrain, after revealing their Dallara built chassis to the world.
So, as of today, Hispania Racing Team, Brunno Senna & Karun Chandhok are now available to be chosen by all Team Managers.
14 February 2010 - Registration Now Open
Welcome to the 2010 season of The FRL.
So, what's new for The FRL in 2010? Apart from the obvious face lift, the "Practice Session" has been extended by 1 race, which means there will be 3 practice races and a "Racing Season" of 16 races (also 1 longer than last year). While the rest of the rules have remained the same, the driver's & constructor's costs and the points awarded for qualifying and finishing positions have been admended to take into account the 4 extra constructors & 8 drivers.
Although, The FRL's scoring and costs have been amended to handle 13 constructors and 26 drivers, it's begining to look very unlikely the full contingent will make it to the start of F1 season in Bahrain. Campos appears unable to put together enough funds to enter F1 and US F1 looks to have the funding but appears to be unable to put together a car in time. Until The FRL is 100% convinced US F1 & Campos will be on the Bahrain starting grid Team Managers will be unable to add these constructors (and their drivers) to their teams.
Also, Korea has yet to receive FIA approval of it's Yeongam circuit and until such time that it has Team Managers will be unable to pick Korea as one of their three bonus races.
For further information about The FRL in 2010 please see the relevant post in the forum.
So, with only a month to go registration is now open, pick your team(s) today. Anyone who had a team in 2009 will still be able to use their login and password from last season, there is no need to register a new, however, if you are new to The FRL please give the rules a quick read first.
30 January 2010 - New Season Fast Approaching
The FRL is now preparing for the 2010 season, starting with this new look.
It is hoped that registrations for the new season will start around the middle of February, although this may vary if Renault, Campos & US F1 don't annouce their remaining drivers soon. If necessary, The FRL will open without these drivers, but this can lead to problems later on when giving these drivers a value if the constructors pick drivers who competed in 2009 and not new drivers to F1, so where possible The FRL will only open for the 2010 season once all drivers are confirmed.
Anyone who played The FRL in 2009 or has indicated an interest in playing in 2010 will automatically receive an email as soon as registration is open.
